Human Skin Texture and Shading - Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Mercer's skin was very waxy. I added more color variation, pore details, accentuated the wrinkles.

All human skins went through similar treatment of adding more believable details like color variation and pore details, and overhauling roughness and SSS masks.

I got the chance to help with improving the skin texture and shading of characters on both Humans and Na'Vi. Here are a few samples of them.

As the project went on, the skin shading was neglected for some time, specifically for humans. I offered to lend my material expertise to improve how they look by manually painting color variation on top of very basic and neutral scan textures, rebalanced the normals, adding more pore details, accentuating wrinkles wherever appropriate. The general roughness and SSS were also repainted from scratch. It's a culmination of a lot of small improvements and fixes to get them to look right.
